Intruder Ops

Adam and I finished up our first game of Asteroid Blues Phase 2 really quickly, so we decided to shuffle the terrain around and go again. I had a win for Nomads on The Gallery Maze, and Adam needed some points on the Jiyuan open pit for NA2, so we set up for a game of Quadrant Control.

Again, not really the most exciting table, but I brought an entirely different list so I figured it would at least be a new game.

Overview

  • Mission: Quadrant Control (Jiyuan Open-Pit Site: Ops Hub)
  • Forces: Jurisdictional Command of Corregidor versus Ikari Company (300)
  • Deploy First: Ikari
  • First Turn: Corregidor

I’ve been wanting to try out the new Mobile Brigada + Tsyklon + Alguacil link, so I brought just enough stuff to make one. Being able to take Lupe and the Daktari in the Brigada link really changes the character of things. I took a Tomcat Engineer to be a Tomcat and also to give me options in repairing my TAG or the Tsyklon. This list definitely suffers from a distinct lack of board control aside from the link, so I knew I’d have to really rely on the Mobile Brigada ML and the Tsyklon to do a lot of heavy lifting.

Adam’s list was the same as the one he brought to our earlier game of Looting and Sabotaging, so I knew what to expect. The baggage bots definitely needed to be prioritized, so I figured I’d have to use the Tomcat to hunt them. The Daiyokai was going to be a problem as well… and I was hoping I would have an easier time dealing with the Tanko MLs.

Deployment

I won the rolloff and chose table side. Adam, shockingly, chose second turn, giving me both deployment and initiative! He cited never having won a game of Quadrant Control having gone first as the reason. Well, I’d have to prove to him that it was possible then!

He set up his Tanko missile Haris covering a wide swath of the table on his left, basically locking down that entire table side. The Druze settled in with half of them atop a tall building, basically guaranteeing Adam that quadrant unless I somehow managed to Tomcat them all off. The Panguling flanked his deployment to further lock in the Quadrants. I decided I was going to go after the left Panguling which was only protected by the Tanko MLs instead of the whole Druze link.

Since I could counter-deploy Adam, I set up Lupe to support my Intruder HMG with smoke, and then tucked the rest of the link in as best I could nearby. I put the Tsyklon in a spot where it could climb up onto the roof if necessary, with the Mobile Brigada covering the roof with all the Druze on it. My Intruder Lt hung out in my left near quadrant ’cause I needed something there…

Adam dropped Tako Knight the Daiyokai in the back, out of line of fire of my Intruder, and then I put my Gecko on the left to beef it up a little, although it definitely felt out of place there. I figured I could go hunting after something or other, or at least get out of there with the new Tactical Awareness order.

Turn 1

Top of 1 – Nomads

Order number one, set up smoke for the Intruder with Lupe. I also climbed the Tsyklon up the wall to set up a shot on the Daiyokai for later. Then it was time to start gunning down Tankos. It took a few orders of them dodging around on the rooftop but finally a crit and some failed ARM rolls later and I had two unconscious Tankos on my hands.

I had a few more orders left, and there was a place to see the Tanko with the Tsyklon on the roof of the building, so I climbed the Tsyklon into position and started blasting away. I landed 2/3 hits with AP+DA ammo, but the Daiyokai passed all of its ARM saves and ducked back into cover.

With Tako Knight out of the way, I brought on my Tomcat near the Panguling I had decided to hunt earlier.

It took me the last of my orders to punch through its ARM 2 but I finally dropped it, climbing the building as I went.

After rescuing the Gecko with its tac aware order, I spent my last order resetting the link and getting the Tsyklon off the roof and hopefully protected from the Druze HMG.

Bottom of 1 – Ikari

I had sort of forgotten about the Yuan Yuan in my focus. It came in off the table edge and was really threatening my link and my Intruder. I knew I’d have to lose something and decided to sacrifice the Tsyklon to protect the Intruder.

I threw two EXP rounds at the Yuan Yuan as it chain rifled my Tsyklon and was rewarded with a dead Yuan Yuan at the cost of my Tsyklon.

The Brawler haris tried to get a shot onto the Tomcat, but Adam had misjudged the single-move distance to the edge of the building and I was safe.

The Druze HMG that I’d been worried about finally popped up, putting a wound on the Mobile Brigada ML and forcing her into total cover. It then had a go at my Alguacil HMG, but she crit the Druze and dropped it.

With no other option, Adam sent in the Daiyokai. It failed to take out my Zondcat thanks to two ARM saves, and moved on to other business.

The Daiyokai went after Lupe next. She failed to connect with either Panzerfaust, but tanked the Red Fury shot that came back and ducked into cover.

Adam knew better than to leave the Daiyokai out, so he retreated Tako Knight, finally taking out the Zondcat on the way.

Adam’s unfortunate loss of the Druze HMG had left his link a little out of position, but he was forced to pass turn.

Turn 2

Adam and I are tied on quadrants but his Daiyokai is controlling one and my Gecko isn’t, so he gets the DataTracker point.

Top of 2 – Corregidor

It was time to send in the Gecko. First, I cleaned up the Druze KHD…

then risked an engagement with the remaining Tanko’s Blitzen, managing to take it out, but just barely.

Now it was time to attack the Daiyokai. After forcing it into cover with a wound from the Intruder’s HMG, it took a further two orders worth of combi fire from the Tomcat, but Tako Knight finally dropped.

I retreated the Tomcat, Gecko, and reset the link with a coordinated order, reforming the link with the Brigada watching the rooftop.

Bottom of 2 – Ikari

Adam was really low on orders at this point and was without a link. He had just enough orders to get a Druze Panzerfaust onto the ground to secure a second quadrant.

Turn 3

We’re tied on quadrants again, but this time I’ve got a DataTracker and Adam doesn’t. We’re now tied, 3 to 3 points.

Top of 3 – Corregidor

I try to take out the Druze that Adam had climbed off the roof with my Tomcat, but my luck runs out. My Tomcat gets tank fisted straight off the roof.

It’s time to send in the link, and my Alguacil HMG gets another crit, this time on the offending Druze that took out my Tomcat.

The Gecko makes short work of the remaining Panguling…

and with me having a few orders left, run of the board, and Adam in retreat, we call it there.

This puts me at 7 points after securing Adam’s HVT and more quadrants.

7-3 Jurisdictional Command of Corregidor Victory!

Post Game Analysis

Deploying first and going second is incredibly brutal. That basically let me set up my Intruder to take out the Tankos without much incident and really put Adam on the back foot straight from the start.

After that, a series of bad rolls just kept him on the back foot the whole game and it just snowballed from there after the Gecko took out the Tanko and the Druze KHD. We discussed the game a little more afterwards and came to the conclusion that it probably was a mistake to put 3/5 of the Druze on the building–it just cost Adam more orders. I didn’t really have much in the way to attack his order pool until he exposed it, but I suppose there was no way for him to really know that ahead of time.

Tomcats continue to really do some serious work for me. I don’t know why I haven’t been using them more recently! I like the Mobile Brigada link, especially when it’s so cheap! I’ll need to play with it more. As always, a great game with Adam. Shame I couldn’t give him the victory NA2 needed on The Pit.

WiseKensai

I primarily play Infinity and Malifaux nowadays, but I dabble in plenty of other game systems.
